About Us

How We Started

In the fall of 2014, codebee's founder began volunteering with the Benicia Unified School District's STEAM Wheel program, aiming to integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics into the curriculum. Jorge Castaneda volunteered as a computer coding coach at Matthew Turner, teaching 4th-grade classes. There, he honed his teaching methods, focusing on making coding approachable, fun, and engaging for students through game development, storyboards, and animations.

Today, codebee Academy collaborates with the Benicia Unified School District as a community partner, providing computer coding education to all elementary schools and Benicia Middle School.

This summer (2024), we're launching our first coding bootcamp.

Programs

Scratch

Scratch is a visual programming language and online community where users can create interactive stories, games, and animations. It's designed especially for children aged 8 and up. In Scratch, users snap together code blocks to create scripts, eliminating the need for typing out code. It's a great way for beginners to learn programming concepts in a fun and engaging way. The platform also includes a community where users can share their projects, remix others' work, and collaborate on coding projects.

Microbits

Microbit is a pocket-sized programmable computer designed to make learning and teaching easy and fun. It's equipped with sensors, LEDs, and buttons, allowing users to create various projects, from simple games to more complex inventions. Microbit is widely used in schools to teach coding, electronics, and computational thinking. It can be programmed using various programming languages, including MakeCode, MicroPython, and Scratch. Additionally, Microbit has a vibrant online community where users can share their projects, get inspiration, and collaborate with others

Robotics

Robotics with LEGO Spike Prime offers an engaging and hands-on introduction to robotics for learners of all ages. With its user-friendly design and versatile capabilities, Spike Prime enables students to build and program their own robots, fostering creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Through fun and interactive projects, students learn essential STEM concepts such as engineering, coding, and robotics in an accessible and enjoyable way.

Python

Python is a versatile and powerful programming language known for its simplicity and readability. It's widely used for web development, data analysis, artificial intelligence, scientific computing, and more. With its clear and concise syntax, Python is easy to learn, making it an excellent choice for beginners and experienced programmers alike. Its extensive standard library and large community support make it an ideal language for a wide range of applications, from simple scripting to complex software development projects.
